Soy Good For You

When I began my candle making I researched the difference of using Paraffin wax to soy wax and as soon as I read all the benefits of using soy – it was a clear winner.

There is often some confusion of what is the difference between soy wax and paraffin wax?

Paraffin wax: Oily liquid similarly obtained and used as fuel, especially kerosene. It is waxy solid consisting of a mixture of saturated hydrocarbons, obtained by distillation from petroleum or shale.

Soy wax: A processed form of soybean oil. Originates from good old-fashioned soybeans.

Hmmm.. Ok a natural vegetable product – I’m sold!

So lets take a look at how soy wax is produced.

Firstly the oil from the soybeans is separated and then purified to give pristine soybean oil, which then will go through a process called hydrogenation that will turn it into a solid.
No soy wax or any wax made from a liquid vegetable can be certified organic due to the process of the soybean liquid into a solid wax. Due to this chemical change the wax cannot meet organic certification. However it is still a clear winner compared to paraffin.

Illatos Lang uses a premium soy wax called Ecosoya, they are based in the United States and use only domestically grown crops.
Ecosoya guarantees the wax is completely free of any pesticides, herbicides or any genetically modified material. Each kilo of wax is carefully analyzed to assure its quality before leaving the laboratory.
Unlike other vegetable or soy waxes on the market, this soy wax is 100% natural and biodegradable. It is Kosher certified. Not tested on any animals ☺. And of course free from any petroleum, paraffin, or toxic materials.

So what are some of the benefits of choosing soy wax candles?

Soy wax candles will burn up to 50% longer than paraffin candles as the wax burns cooler. Which is also safer to burn when children are around.
There is less soot emitted from soy candles. The soot from paraffin candles may cause damage to your walls, furniture, ceilings etc. I have personally experienced this from a paraffin candle. I ended up with black soot on my wall and ceiling – Eww!! This resulted in a new coat of paint to clear it up.
Soy wax will not stain either – it is simply cleaned by using hot soapy water. It is a renewable resource that can be replaced at a rate comparable or faster to the rate of consumption. And is sustainable without damaging the ecosystem.

Unfortunately there are no regulations on how much soy has to be in a candle to classify it a ‘soy candle’. Candles need only to contain as little as 20% soy to be classified a soy or soy based candle.

So with Illatos Lang, you can be assured you are receiving a 100% soy wax candle with all the added benefits as listed above. We do not add any other additives to enhance the appearance of the wax.

Impressed? I am.

The Royals in Manly

With the royals visiting Manly (My local town) today the excitement is boiling over and helps me think that we are all princesses in our own way. I know I feel like one today as I prep for my sisters wedding tomorrow.

I’ve just hopped out of the shower after using our Body Scrub.  I’m so in love with it. I don’t know why I always forget to use it. My skin feels about 10 years younger, so soft and moisturized already! It’s made with Organic raw sugar, Himalayan rock crystals and the amazing organic oils – Camellia, Jojoba and coconut, moisturize your skin like nobody’s business! I always follow with our body butter made with Organic Calendula oil, Macadamia & Vitamin E (oh and it’s paraben free) I have quite dry skin so I use this daily and find that it keeps my skin hydrated all day long. I can’t stand that dry, about-to-crack- feeling so I personally love it!

As summer is trying to hold on, my dry skin is telling me otherwise. So my friends do yourself a favour and give your skin some nourishment this April.

Here we are bringing to you our first blog entry! I’m pretty excited that we have the opportunity to show you what Illatos Lang is all about.

With our new beaut website currently under construction- and looking pretty good (if I must say so myself) it’s been quite a process to arrive to this point from the birth of Illatos Lang. And I can’t wait to show you what we have on offer now.

Just so you know the correct pronunciation: ILLATOS LÁNG  – ILL-A-TOS LANG

This translates to “Scented Flame” in Hungarian. My Poppy is Hungarian. And I wanted to create a brand in honor of him and my late beloved Nanny whom I miss so much.

Our current range – Budapest Inspired is homage to my love.

As I sit here with a glass of wine and watching the flickering flame of our gorgeous white tea and ginger candle –An opportune time to cheers them both! x
